WATERMELON CULTIVATION
At the worldwide level, watermelon cultivation covers approximately 1,500,000 hectares, and is especially widespread in Russia, Turkey, Brazil and United States.
In Italy, this crop covers a surface area of approximately 18,000 hectares, providing a production of over 600,000 tons, concentrated mainly in Emilia-Romagna (source of 30% of the domestic crop) and Latium.
The most commonly grown varieties in Italy are the Sugar Baby and Crimson Sweet.
